The first crosses of the dog took place in England and some members of the stock were sent to America. In 1889 about thirty fanciers if this breed formed the club dedicated to these dogs. At first they were called Round Heads or Bullet Heads.

The dogs that we see today used to be fighters and participated in the bloody games of bull baiting. Later when these fights were prohibited the dogs were bred as pet dogs and companions. Nowadays they are lap dogs they are friends and companions for the lonely people.
